The weather was overcast with light wind, with the temperature hovering just above freezing all day. Much of the standing water being covered in ice. Scenting conditions were good, with many of the dogs achieving a decent point, however several birds were missed within the heavy cover of the woods. Five dogs were seen in the second round and two in the third. Two dogs achieved HPRs during the trial, resulting in the awards above.
Thank you to the hosts, judges and to the guns. Thanks also to our sponsors Skinners, the helpers and to the handlers for supporting the trial.

FT Report
1st Not Awarded
2nd Place Gsp Brookshead Edelweiss Handler R Kay
The dogs first run was in open woodland into wind, within running for only a few minutes the dog pointed at the end of the wood, the handler positioned the guns, and the judges asked him to have the dog produce the bird which it did on command. The bird was shot and we asked the dog to retrieve which it did sufficiently.
The second run was into wind this time running into chicory planting, the dog quartered the field using the wind well with a nice head carriage, a nice point resulted and was held for the guns to get within range. On command the dog flushed and the dog was steady to shot and fall, a nice marked retrieve was carried out well over distance. A nice partnership and a pleasure to watch.
3rd Place
Hv Goldstream Miss Teeq Szajani Handler R Major
This dogs first run was in open woodland with a back wind; however, end of season birds and back winds certainly don’t make for an easy run. A bird was acknowledged by the dog however it was not shot.
It’s second run was on a hedgerow with a cheek wind, it was careful not to push birds to hard working a ditch and the hedgerow really nicely. The dog pointed towards the end of the hedgerow, on command flushed and executed a quick retrieve. Again, a nice partnership.
The trial was held under very testing cold weather conditions.
But thanks to the guns, our hosts and Julie Wains excellent organisation a good day was had by all.
