The following was sent to our Breed Health Co-ordinator by the Royal Kennel Club and may be of interest to anyone considering mentoring and breeding for the first time.
As mentioned at the breed community day this year, we’re pleased to let you know that today we have opened applications for our new Breeder Mentoring & Canine Midwifery Programme, developed in partnership with ROYAL CANIN® and James Wellbeloved™.
This new initiative aims to support new and aspiring breeders by pairing them with experienced mentors who can offer guidance, reassurance, and practical advice drawn from their own experience.
Invitations to apply to become a mentor are being sent to breeders today, and we’ll also be sharing the announcement on our Facebook channel.
If you know of any breeders within your community who you believe would make excellent mentors, we’d be very grateful if you could share this opportunity with them.
Successful applicants will be invited to attend our first Canine Midwifery Day at the Waltham Petcare Science Institute on 2 December 2025, where they’ll help us shape and develop this exciting new programme.
Application deadline: 16 November 2025
Any queries can be addressed by my colleagues at health@thekennelclub.org.uk.

Kind regards
