Syl supervising the road repairs

Syl was bought (unseen) as an eighteenth birthday present for Victoria, and had a very successful show career in the early nineties, winning several Best Puppy in Breed awards at championship shows.
When six and a half months old, he took his first of many Best of Breed awards at Waverley Gundog, shortlisted to the last six for Best in Show and went on to win Best Puppy in Show under the well-known Mrs Val Foss. Syl also won two Best Gundog awards at Open show level - in the days when Spinoni were still regarded as a Rare Breed - a "rare" occurrence for Spinoni in those days! Syl was also Top Dog at Open Shows in the annual ISCGB competition.
He was used at stud twice, producing sound and typical dogs who have retained good working instincts and his fantastic temperament. He was the grandfather and great grandfather to all our current dogs, and will be sadly missed by all of us at Broomhill. "To call him a dog hardly seemed to do him justice, though insomuch as he had four legs, a tail, and barked, I admit he was to all outward appearances. But, to those of us who knew him well, he was a perfect gentleman" Hermione Gingold
